P: Gracious God, it is good for us to gather as your beloved in community. We treasure your presence with us in word, song and prayer. Be with us in these days when

gathering together as often as we would like is not possible. When we must be apart for

reasons of safety, we trust that you surround us with your sheltering wings. Encourage us

in connecting as we are able, reaching out to our neighbors in need and being persistent

in prayer. We ask this in the name of Jesus, our constant companion.

C: Amen.

P: Out of the depths we cry to you, O Lord.

C: From the depths of fear, uncertainty and solitude; we cry out.

When day by day our reality changes; we cry out.

Hear our voices.

P: Let your ears be attentive to our cries.

C: If you marked all our sin against us, Lord, we could not stand;

and yet, you give us grace.

P: We are waiting for you, Lord.

C: More than those who wait for the dawn to come; we wait and watch for you.

P: Come Lord, remind us that you are present

C: There is nowhere we can go to escape your Spirit.

P: In this fear, you are with us

C: When we feel as though we are in the depths of sorrow, you are there.

P: In this uncertainty and darkness, you are there

C: These days are not uncertain to you. The darkness is light to you.

P: Hear us Lord, extend your grace to us, remind us of your presence and bring light to this uncertain time through Christ, our Lord.

C: We cry out to you; hear us!.

P: In Christ Jesus the God of Light shines light into our lives and lifts us from the depths of fear, uncertainty and solitude.  Jesus says to us “Come to me, all you that are weary and are carrying heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. 29Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me; for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.”

Take heart now; for God hears our cry and through Christ Jesus gives you peace and rest; you are made whole and reconciled to God and to one another, you are made new and given a spirit of hope and power; not of fear.

In the name of +God the Creator, Christ Jesus the redeemer, and Holy Spirit the comforter.

C: Amen.

GATHERING SONG There is a Balm in Gilead

There is a balm in Gilead

to make the wounded whole;

there is a balm in Gilead

to heal the sin-sick soul.

1 Sometimes I feel discouraged

and think my work’s in vain,

but then the Holy Spirit

revives my soul again.  Refrain

2 If you cannot preach like Peter,

if you cannot pray like Paul,

you can tell the love of Jesus

and say, “He died for all.”  Refrain

3 Don’t ever be discouraged,

for Jesus is your friend;

and if you lack for knowledge

he’ll ne’er refuse to lend.  Refrain

Text: African American spiritual

P: The Lord be with you.

C: And also with you.

P: Let us pray…

C: Amen.

Ezekiel 37: 1-14

Psalm 130—Congregation and Pastor read together

1Out | of the depths

  I cry to | you, O Lord;

2O Lord, | hear my voice!

  Let your ears be attentive to the voice of my | supplication.

3If you were to keep watch | over sins,

  O Lord, | who could stand?

4Yet with you | is forgiveness,

  in order that you | may be feared. R

5I wait for you, O Lord; | my soul waits;

  in your word | is my hope.

6My soul waits for the Lord more than those who keep watch | for the morning,

  more than those who keep watch | for the morning.

7O Israel, wait for the Lord, for with the Lord there is | steadfast love;

  with the Lord there is plen- | teous redemption.

8For the Lord shall | redeem Israel

  from | all their sins. R

HYMN OF THE DAY  To Be Alive by Dakota Road

To be alive, is to live the love, that is alive

in God’s saving Son, who brought us back

from a life of death, to be alive

Verse 1

There is nothing I can do to save me

only God carries us home

so we live, mercy, hope and freedom, loving another to be whole

Join the singing, join the celebration

Jesus lives, we are restored

Love alive, giving and forgiving, loving another to be whole

P: Gathered into one by the Holy Spirit we now confess our faith in the words of the Apostles Creed

C: I believe in God, the Father almighty,

creator of heaven and earth.

I believe in Jesus Christ, God’s only Son, our Lord,

who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,

born of the virgin Mary,

suffered under Pontius Pilate,

was crucified, died, and was buried;

he descended to the dead.*

On the third day he rose again;

he ascended into heaven,

he is seated at the right hand of the Father,

and he will come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit,

the holy catholic church,

the communion of saints,

the forgiveness of sins,

the resurrection of the body,

and the life everlasting. Amen.

*Or, “he descended into hell,” another translation of this text in widespread use.

P: Turning our hearts to God who is gracious and merciful, we pray for the church, the world, and all who are in need…

Congregational refrain: P: Lord, in your mercy C: Hear our prayer

P: All these things we give to you, merciful God, in the name of the One who bears our burdens in his own body, Jesus the Christ, who taught us to pray…

C: Our Father in heaven,

hallowed be your name,

your kingdom come,

your will be done,

on earth as in heaven.

Give us today our daily bread.

Forgive us our sins

as we forgive those

who sin against us.

Save us from the time of trial

and deliver us from evil.

For the kingdom, the power,

and the glory are yours,

now and forever. Amen.

P: Now is the acceptable time.

Now is the day of salvation.

Holy God,

speaking, spoken, and inspiring,

bless you, unbind you,

and send you in love and in peace.

C: Amen.

P: Go in peace; care for one another, pray for one another, remain steadfast in Hope

C: Thanks and praise be to God!
